To be fair, Linux would perform so poorly too, if it had 194 data extraction programs running in the background. This comparison is clearly unfair.

Tbf if Linux was running at the same tdp it would be the same speed, as shown by 13w tests

      The 17w is actually 16w vs 20w+ and 35w is 25w vs 35w+.

So the article is very wrong and misleading. Watch the actual video and post attention to the power draw and clock speeds.

Are you able to remove the 194 data extraction programs that are running in the background as user?

Cyber dopamine’s test needs to be retested for this to be true. I love gaming on Linux and also regularly use my steam deck yada yada yada but come on.

Microsoft after spending $1 trillion to make everything as incompatible with Unix as possible: “Look, look! Our OS is performing 0.7%* better. This is why open source software is pointless.”

*Only in this specific, 1 in 1000000 scenario. Please refer to: aka.ms/fuckyourself for more information.

I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that nobody at Microsoft registered that short URL for the lulz or the resulting destination for short URLs that don’t get found.

That’s XBOX ALLY X, the more powerful version.

Also, I need to look way more into this as 32% sounds cherry picked as fuck.

Edit: yeah, this didn’t take much to find out. It’s due to a bug not apples to apples comparison. Still calls it Ally and not Ally X and SO MANY FUCKERS HERE FELL FOR THIS, JESUS F CHRIST.

You should be embarrassed, all of you. Hundreds of upvotes “oh yeah, figures!” with ZERO and I mean ZERO critical thinking. You read what you want to read and take it as facts.

So sure, if you run one device at 21 TDP and the other at 17, one will do better!

Did we read the same article?

So sure, if you run one device at 21 TDP and the other at 17, one will do better!

      From the article:

Unless you’re really splitting hairs, 31.91% = 32%. Using the same TDP on both.

It’s due to a bug not apples to apples comparison.

There’s only two mentions of bugs, and both are used to describe Bazzite’s rapid development, nothing to do with performance.

So, what are you talking about?

Look at the actual video that Tom’s is pulling data from. There is clearly a bug with the tdp limiting in Linux which is using far more power and thus higher clock speeds.

The only valid results are 13w vs 13w. The “17w” is actually 16w windows vs 20w+ Linux and “35w” is actually 25w vs 35w.

Even if it were a fair comparison, 32% is still cherry picked. It’s the best result, versus the average result of +6–7% (sorry, that was the fps increase) +13–14%. 🤷‍♂️

I’m still proud of Linux for being this competitive. ❤️🐧

Oh sure. Headlines are always going for maximum clickbait.

The bottom line, from the article and video is that the experience is much better in Linux, outside of the kernel anticheat games.

I’m not sure I understand the point that you’re trying to make.

If you use Linux you can use more power to get higher clock rates, have a longer battery life, more stable framerate and a suspend feature that works.

It seems reasonable to say “ROG Xbox Ally runs better on Linux than the Windows it ships with”

It’s like claiming a race car is only faster because it produces more horsepower… yes, that’s the entire point and what we want.

Way to twist the facts. The difference is that the powerlimits aren’t working properly on Linux not that it can offer more.

His test was supposed to be at 17w but it was running over 20w in linux.

The increase in framerate varies from game to game. Hogwarts Legacy and Kingdom Come Deliverance run better on Linux.

Out of the box the ROG Ally runs Xbox FSE which is a stripped down Windows optimized for gaming, so the comparison isn’t with the mainline. I didn’t find a comparison with Xbox FSE and Windows IoT though.

I’m inclined to believe IoT would still have a partial advantage because of it being devoid of any unnecessary components - FSE still includes their “Gaming AI” and the Microsoft Store because it’s for home users rather than enterprise customers.
