There’s a local brewing supply co that does cannister swaps for SodaStream things and I’m trying to figure out how to diplomatically ask “so are you actually paying SodaStream for rights to do this or are you just DIYing it?”
Since, like, I assume Canadian Tire pays SS for like official vendor status for swapping the cannisters.
And I don’t wanna pay SodaStream. I mean I’m not gonna throw out my old stuff either, it still works, just needs fresh CO2.
If you are in Canada, there is a drop-in alternative to SodaStream CO2 cylinders. It’s called Indigo, and I have found cylinders in Giant Tiger and Home Hardware. They are also significantly cheaper both to buy and refill then SodaStream.
I don’t know if Indigo sells the machines themselves, or only the cylinders, but since I already had a SodaStream machine, it didn’t matter.
I’m pretty sure the connector on a sodastream bottle is not proprietary. It’s very similar, if not the same, as the ones on the paintball canisters I used to fill (at least the threaded one).

It’s not, but they do sell adapters:
