U.S. President Donald Trump says he is terminating all trade negotiations with Canada over an advertisement by the Ontario government that uses the late U.S. president Ronald Reagan’s own words to send an anti-tariff message to American audiences.

In a late-night post to his Truth Social platform, Trump attacked the ad, which he attributed to Canada rather than Ontario, as fraudulent and fake.

“TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A.” Trump wrote. “Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”

So I guess CUSMA is dead?

I think the best part is Trump saying Canada’s doin it to influence the Supreme Courts decision. As if Canadians don’t already understand that the way you influence the Supreme court in the US is to bribe the Republican Justices, like Clarence Thomas. That guys for sale for sure.

A lot has happened today after Trump’s tirade. Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford announced he would be suspending this Ad Campaign after consulting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney:

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/queens-park/article/doug-ford-says-hell-pause-anti-tariff-ad-that-infuriated-trump-as-of-next-week-but-will-still-show-it-during-world-series/

Manitoba’s Premier Wab Kinew has a short video in the same style as the ad where he supports this Ontario Ad Campaign. It’s a well done quick response:

    https://xcancel.com/WabKinew/status/1981753253055361219

I think the Ontario Ad is very well done and I’m glad to see a NDP Premier supporting a Conservative Premier on this and a Conservative Premier publicly supporting a Liberal Prime Minister. Canada is uniting and Trump is unhappy.

    American here.

At least you Canadians don’t have to watch this happen to your own country. It’s rough watching from within as an epidemic of stupidity cripples your nation and tanks your quality of life, likely for the remainder of your life.

Trust me. It’s leaking into ours as well. And don’t think this doesn’t affect us. We’ve been very close economic partners to a point that we both rely on each other. This hurts us a lot.

Doug Ford can eat shit all the way but it is pretty funny how he’s doing the slightest efforts to pretend to have a backbone… but even a whiff of non-acquiescence evokes the full might of authoritarians so it ends up having almost the same effect as actually be fighting back hard as nails. This timeline is messed up that this moron doing jack shit is being consequential.

He let every single greenhouse in Ontario get bought out by a US company, while he only concentrates on alcohol for his simps.

I have almost all of my US services turned off I just pay for Apple’s cloud, although I could probably stop paying the $1.something as I am using Canadian cloud services now. I have my own .ca domain which has unlimited email addresses (on a Canadian host) so that I can create anonymous emails to slow trackers so I am worthless to the US advertising companies (like the Google). The only reason I still have a gmail account is for YouTube, I however use apps to block ads and trackers. I have a pihole system on my LAN to block trackers and ads, and I use the *arr apps for US TV shows. All though my pihole blocks ads on the CBC app I still pay for it, I get most of my news from CBC now.

Once again proving what a trade deal with this person is worth. We should definitely be making sacrifices to secure a deal with this calm, level headed, emotional rock. It would surely not be casting pearls before swine.

The advert is literally just Reagan’s voice from an address he gave against tariffs along with stock video of people and places. That’s it.

They’re starting to erase the supposed tenants of conservative values, worshipping Regan and small government.

The small government stuff was always bullshit but until now he’s been able/forced to hide behind Regan conservatives. Now he’s conflicting with their jesus and doing it in a very overt way.

I do think attacks like this are highly effective because it forces their cognitive dissonance into scrutiny and it’s another chip in the brainwashing.

Many can be swayed like this though anyone who’s made it their identity is too far gone because they won’t accept logical arguments.

It’s called economic terrorism. Fascists try to financially harm anyone they disagree with… until they gain enough power to murder anyone they disagree with.

So I guess CUSMA is dead?

No, why would it be? It’s already in effect, Trump would need to explicitly withdraw from it to make it stop being in effect.

He might do that, of course. He’s randomly throwing tantrums and his dementia-riddled brain could come up with any random impulse for him to follow. But this isn’t that.

Canada/Ontario is not allowed to have the Reagan opinion that tariffs are bad in order for (totally constructive with progress) negotiations to resume?

He is not a politician with grace; he is a whiner with a baby attitude, one who also gets mad when he doesn’t get his own way. All I can say is, what a sad situation the Americans are in.

It took ~16 years for Chile to get rid of their US installed military dictatorship when the US decided to ruin their popular social democracy and slaughter people and fuck up countless lives. And much longer to rebuild after Pinochet fell. I wouldn’t be suprised if it takes at least 16 years for parts of the US to start crawling out of their current dictatorship (with or without donny). And it sure looks like it’s going to be just as brutal if not more. It’s just getting started and there is a very long way for them to fall. 2025 is going to look like a very tame year compared to what is coming, I suspect.

Yeah we will see 2025 as the year one elected official was not sworn in (they were elected in a bi-election), because of Trumps “big Beautiful Bill.” 2026 will be the year that elections are cancelled.

Remember there are still 2 and a bit months left for the US to collapse this year, and the government shutdown is still on!

No problem, let’s also stop supplying power for the entire Northeast then. At this point our population is nearly 100% committed to dealing with the difficulties of cutting ties with the US.

Just export tariffs on electricity, other energy, metals and potash. This still makes energy, manufacturing, cheaper for Canadians, while generating social revenue.
