Hello everyone!

First of all, thanks a lot for the amazing response and interest in Journiv. We have hundreds of stars, thousands of docker pull and many many feature request (and bugs reports) on Github in just two weeks (sleepless two weeks for me :)).

Journiv v0.1.0-beta.8 is out and in it I have added the most requested features.

Highlights:

  • OIDC support (now pretty stable)
  • In app one click export-import with history. So you always have your memories safe and backed up even if you don’t want to deal with docker backups
  • Role Based Access Control for user management.
  • Many quality of life features and bug fixes.
  • Read the release notes here

Journiv began as a deeply personal project, a way for me to capture memories, reflections, and the stories behind thousands of photos and videos of my fast-growing kids. What started as a tool for my own parenting journey has grown into something that fills a real gap in the self-hosting community.

If you’re curious, you can read the full story behind Journiv here.

I’m grateful that Journiv is now helping others preserve their memories as well.

The Journey Ahead

Journiv is in active development, with a fully functional backend, a web frontend, and mobile apps launching soon. It is self-hosted, and designed to be your companion for decades.

Journiv is being built because our memories deserve to be ours, forever.

So this Thanksgiving, give your family the gift of memories that last forever!

I don’t think they’re going out of their way to misrepresent the software.

But if you’re excusing it for being a “turn of phrase”, then it’s a poor choice of turn of phrase.

Both Day One and Apple Journal, which this software is proudly positioned as an alternative to, marketed themselves on “personal” and “private”, not “for the family”.

Which could make sense, if it was designed around family-oriented features. But it’s not.

And it’s not like there’s a lack of options:

      • Give yourself an early Christmas present with
      • Host your own thanksgiving, with
      • Preserve the moments that matter with
      • This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful for your support
      • Host your Thanksgiving memories at home with
      • Bon Appétit, Journiv is self-hosted for the holidays
      • This Thanksgiving, own what you write

But “give your family the gift of memories of memories that last forever”?

I’m defending the validity of my original comment.

You’ve gone this deep with me into the comments. How are you?

I really can’t believe this is going so far for a sentence in the post…

Like I said above that is your interpretation of the sentence. People can have their own. The sentence does not state a fact which is either true or false.

So this Thanksgiving, give your family the gift of memories that last forever!

This is what I was thinking when I wrote that. “give your family the gift of memories that last forever” you don’t even have to give them the instance software to use it. You start using it capturing your memories and thoughts where you have full control and ownership on your data which can last with you for decades rather than according to some third party company terms and policies etc.

At somepoint you can “if you want to” give all/some part of it to your kids/family. What is said above is how Journiv started https://journiv.com/blog/the-story-behind-journiv

My kids are growing faster than I can keep up. Every day brings a hundred tiny moments worth remembering: the first clumsy dance, the way they mangle a new word, the small family adventures I wish I could preserve forever. Like many parents, I wanted to capture these moments—not just for today, but so my kids could look back decades from now and see their childhood through my eyes.

Yes because even they can just easily give it away in Apple or Google play family sharing they want you to pay the subscription individually :)

And now I am out of this comment thread. I don’t think I will have the last word here so I will let you go next :)
