For the many people living in blissful ignorance because consequences haven’t fully hit yet like the guy in the picture, these kinds of tactics are effective. Is it right or fair? Not really. Hey, maybe this will cause him to recognize that the US is no longer safe for LGBTQ people. Which could then help open up a pathway for queer people, especially trans and non binary people, to escape before they start rounding us up.
