See Ford,Moe,Smith push to change how judges are appointed? Same playbook.

He will. He is paving the way for American privatization to support our ultimate annexation into the US. No more hallway medicine. Ta-da!

Again. “Journalism” meant to minimally inform those who already know and not alarm those who haven’t yet, can’t or won’t put the pieces together. Allow me to break this cycle.
Every Country is following up on what the UK first labelled “Lifeboat Ethics.” In the context of ecological overshoot, including but not limited to climate change, a great many places will become uninhabitable, due to heat stress, crop failure, flooding, drought and extreme weather events. Global refugee migration patterns are expected to explode far beyond countries abilities to incorporate, feed, house and economically care for them. Like lifeboats getting overwhelmed by survivors of a shipwreck, the moment calls for hard decisions on who get into whatever lifeboats remain and who is left to drown.
Rather than risk getting overwhelmed by refugees, countries are pre-emptively responding. The UK went Brexit. America went Fascist and Canada, for starters, put in this. Every country big and small know what’s going on. Political, civil and military planners have been on this to varying degrees of intensity for decades now. Russia’s play for the Ukraine is their reaction. They want the fertile Chernozem soils that are the backbone of its status as a globally significant breadbasket.
For those who aren’t in the know, the next 100 years are going to look like a great big geopolitical game of musical chairs played on a global scale. Don’t be the one without a chair when the music stops.
Enjoy!

We really are a psychopathic species. Environmental scientists , NGOs activists and the UN scream for decades that we have to act. That we face certain destruction ranging from persistent and widespread famine to extreme weather destruction. It boils down to permanently reducing the ceiling on earth’s carrying capacity for all species including humans. It poses credible risks of near term human extinction. Despite all this, it’s business as usual. Iran flexing some minor geopolitical oil muscle and suddenly the world mobilizes like there was a purpose.
I’ll take whatever “wins” I can, but sheesh, we’re a dim species.

The article missed the most important part. What diplomatic assignements were cut? Any embasy closures in non priority countries aren’t great, but not so terrible considering the other critical and long overdue investments. A reader is just left guessing if this is ultimately a positive shift, in line with the generally approved of Carney plan or just more embarassing blind penny pinching leaving gaping holes the government hopes no one notices.

ML troll strikes again!

Drop the base.

Not now. I won’t go back until Americans deal with their pest problem.
Agreed but at this stage that means Trump, everyone in his administration, the entire republican party, the big chunk of Dems who pretend to be an opposition, the billionaires, hedge funds and corporate supporters and their executive and everyone who ever voted republican since Citizens United vs. The FEC.
This effectively means a lifetime ban for me. I am still hopeful for my young children can go back to calling Americans friends before they die of old age. My heart goes out to everyone who doesn’t deserve this on both sides of the border.

Satire is dead. Beaverton is just straight up news.

Put a case at the UN with allies with actions and consequences or a good speech with hollow words?

Remember when the article was talking about forest fires, like my comment about forest fires?
Forget or spontaneous development of agriculture in another species? Any computational xenolinguists know how to ask a squirrel about its intentions?

By “press” we mean hollow words not backed by any meaningful action or consequence.

Remember when Canada sucked its own dick in the early days of carbon accounting:
“We’re fine! We have these big forests that are carbon sinks!”
Yeah…

Albertans, Smith, the Cons, the Libs…

Powerful lobbying across the global diaspora. China is desperately trying to do the same, but it’s primary focus is on negative transnational repression and not “positive” lobbying by Hollywood, Wall St and countless other domestic industries.

Those who beat their swords into ploughshares will plough for those who didn’t.
I’m not exactly happy either as any military spending is a terrible misallocation of resources when our greatest threat isn’t the Russian or Chinese. It’s having exceeded our Planetary Boundaries.. Our military crisis is secondary to our ecological crisis. The rules based order and global trade was one of the better ways to fight these problems.
But let’s not pretend that we, as Canadians aren’t directly threatened as are our real NATO allies. These costs are very reasonable under the circumstances.

Agreement in principle - Alberta does whatever it wants, Canada looks the other way.
