  • First installed it after leaving reddit with everyone else. I could only host for others/myself or play unofficial games. Connecting to others in off realm lead to a disconnect one minute in, when this check occured, no matter what. QP was unplayable, so it wasn’t much fun.

Darktide released 100% working, so I dabbed in it for some time, before discovering that they undid that limitation in further patches for VT2 too.

EAC presented such possibility a lot of time ago, and only a year back FatShark implemented it.

So yeah, since that I downed a couple of hundred hours under Mint/Arch/Cachy with Proton, no trickery involved. It works pretty fine, I even had a chance to try it on an old laptop, so performance is at least on par with Win if not better. The only thing is that sometimes, like once in two weeks, it thought that it’s files are corrupted and made me recheck them before allowing me to enter lobby.

  • IoT is Internet of Things, devices where you usually don’t know there is even Windows to begin with, due to some McDonalds Menu Picker overlay or whatever. There is no market for Microsoft acc or OneDrive as they are by themselves are rarely meddled with and are installed en masse. They would get security updates for 10 another years. But besides some differences, only corpos and no end user have a reasonable access to said release, so if you may be checked for legitimity of your software e.g. you try to use it in your business and get caught, it’s obvious you haven’t bought keys for it. So it’s for personal use only.

  • If and when W10 become unusable, I’ll switch to 100% Linux without any doubt, it’s my last Windows.

Depending on your usage, it may mean years, especially as it’s IoT that iirc has longer update cycle.

Microsoft didn’t lock anything meaningful behind w11 upgrade, like they did with DirectX versions, RAM limits etc. So as long as your software doesn’t drop Win10 support (like Steam dropped Win7 just a couple of years ago), you’d be fine.

It would be pretty interesting to see where Linux would be by that time tho.

  • One popular approach is alignment of businesses and government in creating an ecosystem that is the internet for most people, like everything-apps. Musk did claim to create a WeChat-alike from X but it didn’t went far.

Weird acquisitions though are increasingly more alarming. First, Musk got Twitter as a whole company, and although we didn’t initially know who co-paid for it, there weren’t explicit commentary on what exactly Elon would do with it, you needed to read between the lines. Recent TikTok USA purchase by Ellison though not only helped by the government, it’s publicly aknowledged that it would become a propaganda tool for MAGA to affect genZ and genA.

    1. What lead you to dive into examining Telegram?
    2. How would you use it if abandoning it is not an option, safety-wise, on android? Like, opening it in browser instead, killing app from the background, or using some app\tool? Not using it for anything sensitive is obvious.
    3. What are other potential worms is in there you may think of? Recently, Yandex and Meta analytics tools got caught in sending browsing data to phone’s localhost - where their locally installed apps caught it and sent back home. If the FSB conection is that deep, there is no end to what they’d want to mine from users.

It’s not the first time I see your discovery shared and I want to thank you. It won’t completely disencourage people around me from using it but it’d pile up with other many reasons to do so. Someday there would be just enough of them, like it happened with VK, Facebook etc, I believe.
