Did you know that Maslow’s hierarchy of needs was actually based off of the Blackfoot indigenous culture, but he essentially flipped the ‘pyramid’ on its head? Originally, it was meant to be more of a cyclical view (where you take care of society, society takes care of you, all needs are met). He was actually very inspired by this view, but unfortunately adapted it to fit more into the individualist views of the colonizers that continue to exist in most of the western world today. He also never actually put his theories into the pyramid shape we know them to be.
Really interesting to read up on, if you’re into that sort of thing. There’s a few different articles on it, but I thought this one explained it pretty well.
I read some of it but couldn’t stomach much more. The amount of thinly veiled racism was not the vibe for me. Also, I grew up in BC and am in the “young Canadian” age and we were most definitely taught Canadian history and the concept of manifest destiny. Guy just seems mad that they’re teaching the ugly parts of Canadian history now too.
There’s definitely an issue of how so many young Canadians are favouring fascist bullshit, but this ain’t it.
