Canada@lemmy.ca•Apple Accused of Running a ‘Walled Garden’ by Canadian Legal Watchdog CIPPICEnglish
9·6 days agoHave you used the Apple App Store recently? It’s a cesspool of apps using dark patterns, gaming the rankings, stuffing keywords, tricking users who meant to install something else. Everything is “free” but needs “in-app purchases” to unlock the functionality that is implied. Apple is no longer protecting the user here.

2·16 days agoGood to know. Thanks for this info. I’ll be watching this more closely.
I’m in BC and have accounts with several credit unions. My impression is that they are less consolidated than this, however now I’m not so sure. One of them (Prospera) did a merger last year. Their CEO has a total compensation of $921k. VanCity CU’s CEO total compensation is $1.1M. Blueshore CU was the hardest to find (latest numbers are from 2023 when a CEO retired a new one joined) but it appears to be about $750k.

Love this sarcastic tone in the CBC article. 😁

4·20 days agoI’m pleased to learn about Uber drivers in Victoria successfully unionizing. My impression is that Uber is among the most exploitive platforms in the “service economy” so this is encouraging news. Hopefully they can expand the union to cover Vancouver and then all of BC.
