I feel like I woke up in the stupidest timeline where climate change is about to kill us, we decide stupidly to 10x our power needs by shoving LLMs down everyone’s throats, and the only solution to stay private is to 10x our personal LLM usage by generating tons of noise about us just to stay private. So now we’re 100x ing everyone’s power usage and we’re going to die even sooner.

I think your idea is interesting – I was also thinking that same thing awhile back – but how tf did we get here.

  • A better example would be if Apple could make every instance of Safari look identital. It’s too large a percentage of traffic to block. Sure Tor is more serious about privacy than Apple, but Apple imo has the best shot at pulling it off. Google is too anti Privacy and all the smaller projects don’t have the market share. Maybe FireFox, but I don’t keep up as much with them tbh.

I really think the issue would be load on server bandwidth (depending who’s hosting the image). 2mb is not good for client performance, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that much data. Video streaming consumes so much more. I would like to see smaller images so clients can load a feed of images faster. It’s also annoying because Lemmy doesn’t always tell you the size of the images. So the height of posts will shift in your feed as images are loaded.
