There’s always a problem proposing that social media companies be held legally responsible for the content their users create. If they can get sued for anything anyone says in a post, it could become impossible for anyone to run a social media site or even a web forum.
Its a question of the process and the criteria. I’m a Canadian citizen. I want to know that citizenship is a status I hold securely, not something the government can revoke if I do something they don’t like. There would have to be a rigorous process for it. But it would be better, I think, to deal with citizens under Canadian law and not to consider undoing their citizenship. Any power to remove it is ripe for abuse and a likely slippery slope.
Some of us live in areas where Liberals and Conservatives are neck and neck. A vote for anyone but Liberal is effectively a vote for Conservative under FPTP, and I’m not going to make it any easier for those traitors and bigots to ruin the country. Sure, Liberals are not what I want, but falling to fascism is a lot more not what I want. I very much want PR but where I live a vote for the parties that support it is just going to result in one more Conservative MP. I hate it, but we have seen in the US election what happens when people let fascists get a foot in the door.

Of course, they wouldn’t be doing this if you weren’t paying them at least the refunded amount somewhere else - through fees, or through people’s average interest payments, or through price increases applied by the stores to cover the fees they pay to the credit card companies.

The disaster was that the immigration policy wasn’t matched with any meaningful policy to create more housing at an affordable price. Immigration is something Canada continues to need, but on housing politicians are torn between the demands of those who can’t afford housing and the demands of the corporations that build and own property, plus (to a lesser extent, because the gains aren’t real) homeowners who want their property to keep increasing in value. And as usual corporate interests tend to win out.
But maybe there could be corporate pressure for Canada to do something about housing, if it helps other (non-housing) corporations attract skilled workers from the USA and elsewhere.
Right now Conservatives like Doug Ford are much more ready to cave to Trump’s demands than Carney. Pierre Poilievre would be the same way: talk big talk, but cave. And in the end what even would be the point of PP speaking for Canada, when PP’s agenda is to replicate some of the worst aspects of Trumpism in Canada anyway?
