Squinty lizard-person is making fun of the candidate that looks like a real person?
Ah, yes, it’s because she’s a woman and not because she sold our province to the Americans
Something I’ve wondered is how the poll aggregators apply the vote % to regional breakdowns / seat estimates. Are they using the voting patterns from previous elections, or is there polling data broken down by seat?
So if voting patterns changed significantly without overall vote % changing much, the results could still be very very different, correct?
It’s ABC, but it’s also the result of Singh. NDP was neck and neck with Liberals when the Liberals were polling poorly, which could’ve been the NDP’s chance. If Singh still doesn’t get replaced after this election, I don’t think the NDP is going to fare well.
I still think this was a mistake, dental industry needs better regulation before we subsidize all the private practice with this dental plan. It can and should be much cheaper.
wtf… i’m on vacation at that time.
Mail-in ballot
how can they call an election so soon?
Elections are regulated to a 36-50 day campaign period.
He won’t get hired if he isn’t able to speak the language (whatever that might be for the region/clinic/hospital), it doesn’t need to be part of licensing.
Absolute nonsense - an English speaking doctor would be very successful in many Quebec communities, likewise a French speaking doctor would have a lot of success in many communities outside of Quebec. There’s also just as many non-English/French communities where this would be a “problem”. Regulating what language a doctor “must” speak would be just another wasteful bureaucratic hoop.
She might get some exceptions or reductions because of her bootlicking, but keeping them is going to mean keeping up with Trump’s changing demands. It’s a short-sighted way that will result in a complete loss of our sovereignty - though she’s probably fine with that 🙄
Honestly just another reason that ranked choice isn’t the best version of electoral reform :P
Disagree on your assessment of why PR failed, but I agree with it being the bottom of my priorities right now. Back in 2013 I voted Liberal for the first time (normally an NDP voter) purely for electoral reform - it’s incredibly important for the long term health of our democracy. However, we’re in an economic crisis, and I really think we need to survive the next few years before we can worry about long term health, and I think Carney is the right guy for that. I will be happy to see him replaced with someone more progressive down the road.
She specifically writes that it’s no different between the Liberals and Conservatives, and goes further to say Carney would pave the road for someone worse than PP. That’s just straight up delusional.
Yeah, the instructions said you could rank as many or as few as you like. I’m not sure what the effect is of not ranking someone vs ranking them 4th, aside from their internal statistics
This is how I feel (and I don’t really like Singh anyway). Gould is probably my favourite candidate of the Liberals, but I think Carney is what we need to get us through tough times, so I ranked Carney first.
Didn’t rank Freeland because I really dislike her
I don’t consider $1.3B in spending on border security for a 30 day pause as a victory here. After 30 days, what’s the next thing that Trump is going to manipulate our country into doing? This is a test of our sovereignty and we are losing.
I think the only people looking at riding projections or riding history are us nerds who discuss politics on lemmy. I think strategic voting in the general public is very real, but it seems to more take the form of “I normally vote NDP and will vote Liberal this time” rather than digging into the politics of their riding.
