Permission to exercise discretion does not mean cyclists will blindly roll through danger. No one is more aware of the risk of cycling in traffic than cyclists. Riding defensively is a necessary state of mind. A rule change will have no effect on that.
I think you are vastly exaggerating their authority, but the good news is, we can follow this story and see whether it is a success or gets blocked.
There are physicians in Canada that are employed by corporations - OH&S physicians, for example. The Colleges make sure physicians are practicing ethically and competently, but I don’t think they have any say in relation to whether a Dr is employed or self-employed. What would be the issue?
“Listening” is not approval. The government should want to understand the threat better. Carney is being smart here by wanting to understand the situation he has to deal with.
One one in my neighbourhood. Guy also has a Poilievre banner, and a Polievre Flag. All three on display. The sign is the candidate’s sign though. I thought there was a regulation about collecting them within a certain time after an election, but haven’t bothered to look it up. Seems to me once the election is over, everyone in a neighbourhood should re-focus on common interests, not political differences.
His argument can be restated this way: “If I had the facts, it would be harder for me to spew misinformation. By not having a clearance, it is easier to be ignorant of the facts.”.
They’ll just get angrier and play dirtier. That will be the result of their soul searching.
