I use volumio but that’s dedicated OS installation and it’s limiting in the sense of what other things can be done.

I’m looking to setup streaming to HTPC. What r my options?

I found uPnP is not advised due to security risk, however I didn’t see any other recommendation.

    Upnp is not recommended for router and switch setup, it’s the normal way for devices on the local network to advertise and discover each others functionality though and is definitely the way off the shelf doodads do it.

    It’s like how anyone in the house can open the refrigerator door but people outside can’t.

    There are different uPnP things: one that lets apps open ports in your router (security risk) and one with media renderer (safe).

      Oh wow, I just kept thinking renderer somehow opens ports for accepting streams. Let me revisit it then.
