I get a feeling EGS lack of feature development is a Tim thing. Like he decided what the minimum viable product was to beat Valve and there’s no way they’d fund copying feature after feature that Steam has. That’d be admitting he was wrong

Also that talk where he was talking about Unreal Engine 6 being way more tied into Fortnite. Like make a game that’s standalone or make one that’s in Fortnite. Or both. Players in Fortnite can pay for your game. Fortnite metaverse is the primary future of EGS. Not copying Valve. Doing something only Epic can do. Somehow get people who don’t like Fortnite to open Fortnite to play games that aren’t Fortnite in Fortnite

They can’t even fix their stupid engine to make it not shit on graphics anymore. Seriously, UE5 makes great graphics look like shit because of a bajillion forced effects and filters, like temporal antialiasing.

Epic is trash, they choose the most anti-consumer policies and then wonder why gamers are mad.

Epic keeps trying to start the exclusivity console style wars on PC, and that is something I will never forgive. We are on PC because of options and choice already, don’t try to lock us in to your shitty garden.

Steam does a far better job supporting Linux, can’t even be bothered to try and use the epic store.

How? Also my statement is correct. Just because you don’t like the company does not change the fact that lot of Indie game developers and game stars get famous in Steam. If they sign an exclusive contract on Epic, it will most likely die (as we seen it again and again). Valve (Steam) on the other hand support the things I like and want to use, like Linux and Open Source. They pay open source developers to do stuff and it benefits me, the eco system, the community and other companies.

So what is the problem you have?

Edit: In other words: Don’t tell me what to do, convince me.

I can acknowlegde the fact that some indie games rise to fame on Steam without the flowery wording. Most are exclusive to Steam because of their quasi monopoly, so there is not really another place to go. But in the end, Steam can terminate or change their services. They are still a for-profit company under a dangerous government.

I can still support the companies that support me and what I care. And Steam is the only gaming company that does that. I would rather buy and play on Steam than on any other platform. No one says its a perfect place. Doing profit for the company is what I want them to do, otherwise I wouldn’t trust the company exist in the future. And compared to most other gaming companies, Valve is still a private company that does not need to bend its knees for investors. They are very much interested into surviving long term with happy customers. And they support Open Source and Linux. These are very important values to me.

“People keep asking for these basic features that the competitor has. We still refuse to implement them and, for some weird and unexplained reason, people won’t buy from us!”

    Epic board, probably.

It would also help if they didn’t spend every single interview rubbing their hands together with evil glee while they talk about all the anti-consumer features they want to implement and think Steam is crazy for NOT implementing.

The main advantage of not seeking profit at all costs is satisfied customers who are very likely to return, who’da thunk?

I keep forgetting to check it every week to grab a game. Never installed a single one via EGS, but pirated a few later on, though it’s no longer piracy if it’s a game I legally own :)

Same. I will never spend a cent there. Occasionally I rebuy one of the giveway games on Steam just so I can get a DLC.

Occasionally I rebuy one of the giveaway games because I completely forgot Epic gave it away for free. I grab every free offer and immediately put them in the memory hole.

Of all the games i collected there i played none. Slow af luncher and even worse library search than steam. Gonna be interesting see the backlash if they finally close down

You’ve played none but have assessed the speed of the application? Hmm. Doubtful.

Launching games the first time might take a bit just to find your game by virtue of the hundreds sitting there but subsequent launches are just as easy as steam from the system tray icon. Click for context menu, click game.

I got through Alan Wake 2 on it and that’s it, that’s the only game I was willing to put in that effort for, and it’s now an active hindrance to my replaying it. “I should finish off new game+ - nah.”

another article which implies Steam is a monopoly.

Now I just need “EA/Ubisoft/Blizzard leak customer voting records” and “AI game generates CSAM” and I’ve got my 2026 bingo completely filled.
